Then and Now Lyrics

From the age of 10 I used to do a paper route
Just so I could see the paper round
So I could splash in the corner shop
And buy sweets till my teeth would rot
I used to play football, I used to like dancing
Man, I tried everything, even karate
After 5 years I had to pull it
'Cause black belt can't teach you how to dodge bullets
I never knew what I wanted to be
Oh, I knew what the man above wanted for me
They said Jehmal, you're smart enough to be a doctor or a lawyer
But fuck that, them jobs are boring
And footie's getting dry like raving
But shout out to Craig, he's some other kind that made it
I don't know my profession yet quite
But one day I'm gonna get signed
Just write the check
I'm out here spending money so I gotta make it

Rest to make it, things are different so
Don't you take this shit for granted
When the money's in your hand, yeah
My big bro's MCing now
I might have to try this out
And Dizzee Rascal's on TV now
Shit, this could be my way out
Good at English but I hate reading
Good grades, just a few exclusions
My story's inspirational and with the right help
I can execute this out to the nations
Or my words can lock down the pavement
Skip Jamma's basement, Eskimo dance aside
Winding, take it straight to the big stages
That'll be amazing
But damn, I gotta make some
I'm doing it independent, spent before you make some
Think I know my profession now, guys
Damn, I got stars in my eyes
Just write the check
I'm out here spending money so I gotta make it
Rest to make it, things are different so
Don't you take this shit for granted
When the money's in your hand, yeah
If you ever knew what was getting sold
Just so we can pay for videos
8R from the bottom we roll
So when the checks came the first hundred bags got blown
Shout at us boy, better know
Me and Skeppy from the north side
We tried it on our own so they approached us
We never approached the majors and now look, we majors
Just write the check
I'm out here spending money so I gotta make it
Rest to make it, things are different so
Don't you take this shit for granted
When the money's in your hand, yeah
Just write the check
I'm out here spending money so I gotta make it
Rest to make it, things are different so
Don't you take this shit for granted
When the money's in your hand, yeah, uh
Oh baby, oh yeah
Oh yes, I'm making money, baby
Oh yeah

Enjoy the lyrics !!!

Hectic Zeniths is the work of bedroom producer and multi-instrumentalist Adam Morgan Prince. Nearly three years in the making, the densely layered project builds around original piano compositions with an atmospheric collage of pitched dollar-bin vinyl samples, live instrumentation, synths, and haunting vocals. Featuring violinist Patrick Bailey, guitarist Dave Cohen, and The Yetti on drums.

The name "Hectic Zeniths" is an anagram for the German word "Zeitschichten," meaning "Layers of Time." The artist has previously released a free EP and an array of hip hop and electronic remixes under the moniker amplifya. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, he is currently teaching high school math in Philadelphia, PA.

Extended Biography (2011):

Adam Morgan Prince is a 26-year old musician/producer from Brooklyn, NY. At age 7 he began taking classical piano lessons and performing in recitals. A few years later after receiving a guitar for a holiday present, he began teaching himself to play 90’s alt-rock songs of the time (Smashing Pumpkins, Rage Against The Machine, etc.) by ear. Around age 13 he began discovering hip hop production and sampling. After seeing the videos for Sway and Tech’s “The Anthem” and Gangstarr’s “Full Clip” on BET Rap City, he immediately went to buy both albums. Listening to DJ Premier’s manipulation of samples, he began recording samples from his parents vinyl collection and putting together beats with a four track cassette recorder and Casio keyboard. This eventually evolved into using software to make electronic music and hip hop beats and going to hip hop events in NYC to pass around beat CDs. The years that followed would see him producing for an array of independent rappers and further experimenting with layering synths, vinyl samples, and live instruments, moving further away from straightforward hip hop production and more toward electronic and experimental pop music. In 2009 he performed in the backing band for independent rap group CunninLynguists one-time live performance of their 2006 classic ‘A Piece Of Strange.’ Other notable remixes that gained some internet fanfare include a remix of Passion Pit’s “Little Secrets” and Bat For Lashes ‘Two Suns.’ Read more on Last.fm.
