There's Anger In the Land Lyrics

There's grievin' in the country
There's sorrow in the sand
There's sobbin' in the shanty
And there's anger in the landA woman broods in silence
Close beside an open door
Flung on her flimsy doorstep
Lies a corpse upon the floor"You'll not ask me why I'm silent"
The woman said to me
Her two eyes blazed in anger
And her throat throbbed agonyOh, once my heart could cry in sorrow
Now it lies there on the floor
In the ashes by the hearthstone
They can't hurt it anymoreOh, let the wind go cryin' yonder
In the tree-tops by the spring
Let it's voice be soft and feelin'
Like it was a livin' thingThere's grievin' in the country
There's sorrow in the sand
There's sobbin' in the shanty

And there's anger in the land

The trio Peter, Paul and Mary (often PP&M) is an American musical group that was one of the most successful folk-singing groups of the 1960s. The trio comprises Peter Yarrow, Noel Paul Stookey, and Mary Travers. The group was created by manager Albert Grossman, who sought to create a folk "supergroup" by bringing together "a tall blonde (Travers), a funny guy (Stookey), and a good looking guy (Yarrow)." He launched the group in 1961, booking them into the Bitter End, a coffee house in New York City's Greenwich Village that was a favorite place to hear folk artists.
