Thousands On a Raft Lyrics

They took hold of my good idea
Then put it down and laughed
They said I needed several more
And now I'm working on the set
Of thousands on a raft
Thousands on a raft
They knew that I'd been buffaloed
And hippoed and giraffed
They knew how bad my training was
And now I'm on safari
With thousands on a raftOh thousands on a raft
They push for all they're worth
Tied together to prevent
Falling off the earth
So kick your neighbour overboard
And take the plunge yourself
You might end up as a sponge
On somebody's shelfThey're dancing in the mines tonight

Along the sunlit shafts
It reminds me of my last head
And now I sleep with Constance Fright
And thousands on a raft
Thousands on a raftI looked into the future years
And all I saw was graft
I think it was from town to town
So now I'm living on the road
With thousands on a raft
Thousands on a raft
Oh thousands on a raft
Think it's sink or swim
No one stands much of a chance
It's you or me or him
So grab hold of the nearest soul
And save it if you can
You might end up as its lunch
Or become a vanI slept out in the howling gale
And didn't feel the draught
I was thinking something very warm
Now I'm in jail inside the whale
With thousands on a raft
Thousands on a raftMy future's in a paper cup
My body's overstuffed
I forgot when I last saw a face
And now I'm drifting out to sea
With thousands on a raft
Thousands on a raft

Pete Brown & Piblokto! were a British progressive rock band formed in 1969 by Pete Brown, probably best known as the lyricist with Cream. The original band members were Brown on vocals, Laurie Allen on drums, Jim Mullen on guitar, Roger Bunn on bass and Dave Thompson on organ. The band was brought about by Brown's ejection from the The Battered Ornaments and ironically Alan left to join The Battered Ornaments and was replaced by The Battered Ornaments drummer Rob Tait prior to their first single.
