Tobacco Road Lyrics

I was born in a bunk
Mother died and my daddy got drunk
Left me here to die or grow
In the middle of Tobacco RoadGrew up in a dusty shack
And all I had was a-hangin' on my back
Only you know how I loathe
This place called Tobacco RoadBut it's home
The only life I've ever known
Only you know how I loathe
Tobacco RoadI'm gonna leave and get a job
With the help and the grace from above
Save some money, get rich I know
Bring it back to Tobacco RoadBring dynamite and a crane
Blow you up, start all over again
Build a town be proud to show
Give the name Tobacco Road'Cause it's home
The only life I've ever known
Oh, I despise and disapprove you

But I love ya 'cause it's home

#1 - Although they are primarily known for a superlative rendition of "The Way You Look Tonight," the Jaguars had several other fine records and were highly regarded by other vocal groups on the West Coast.
Like the Calvanes, Dreamers, Flairs, Meadowlarks, Medallions and Penguins, the Jaguars came from the halls of Fremont High in Los Angeles. In fact, they had started, in 1954, singing in the Fremont High Mixed Chorus. Originally known as the Shadows, the members were: Herman "Sonny" Chaney (lead), Valerio "Val" Poliuto (tenor), Manuel Chavez (baritone), and Charles Middleton (bass).
