Try a Little Tenderness Lyrics

Oh, she may be weary
And young girls, they do get weary
Wearing the same old shabby dress, oh yeah
Oh, when she gets weary
Try a little tenderness, oh yes, oh yes, oh
You know she's waiting, oh, just anticipating, oh
For the things she'll never possess, oh no, no
Oh, while she's there waiting, there without them
Try, oh just a little, oh just a little, little, little tenderness
That's what I said, a little tenderness
Oh, na, na, na, na, na, na
It's all you got to do, it's not
Oh, just it don't mean to know
She has, she has, she has her griefs and cares, oh
But the soft words, way he spoke so gentle, yeah
And it makes it easier, easier to bear
Hey, you won't regret it, no
Them young girls, they don't forget it

Love is their own, their own happiness
Oh, but it's all, it's all so simple now
All you got to do is try a little tenderness
Oh, won't you show her, won't you show it
That you love her?
Hey, you wanna squeeze her, don't tease her
Never leave her, you've gotta, won't you, won't you try
Just try a little tenderness
Hey, you gotta show it that you want it
No wanna [Incomprehensible] now
Squeeze her, don't tease her
Never leave her, hold her, grab her softly now
And try a little tenderness
Hey, you gotta listen to me
Don't leave her, don't cheat her now
Squeeze her, don't cheat her
Never leave her, gotta show it, na, na, na, hey
Hey, hey, you gotta know what to do
Don't be a fool, you need to try it now
Just try a little tenderness
A little tenderness
Just take it from me
You don't wanna let her leave, oh no
Squeeze her, don't tease, never leave
You've gotta, won't you try?
Just try, just try a little tenderness
Is there a witness in the building tonight, hey, hey
You've gotta, won't you, won't you try?
Just try a little tenderness
Sim, sim, try a little tender, tender, tenderness
You wanna squeeze her, don't tease her
Never leave her, hold her, grab her softly now
Just try a little, just try a little, just try a little, oh no
Hey, hey, hey, just try, just try, just try, ooh
You wanna squeeze her, don't tease her
Can you hear what I'm saying?
'Cos even won't you just, just try, oh

"Brantley epitomizes everything Rock & Roll stands for and I could not think of a better voice to deliver the punch...He is the Dali Lama providing World Peace in a sea of edgy, hardcore, underground southern rock."
- The Tennessean

"He howls like a wildcat, shreds guitar and pounds a piano like a veteran of some long-forgotten honky-tonk war and writes songs with such grit you'd swear he is a cantankerous old man."
- The Knoxville Daily Times

When Rick Brantley opens his mouth, it is time to listen. Behind his thunderous voice, pounding piano, and pulsing rock guitar lies a vision, or, as Brantley puts it, a "battle cry." Expect to discover the heart of the human existence: the desperation and disillusionment, cynicism and longing, but also an inexhaustible hope. It’s as if he has developed a true artistic detachment that bleeds authenticity. It is hard to believe that the music and lungs responsible for this authentic 21st century "millennium rock n' roll" originates from such a young Georgia native, but Brantley sees his youth as an asset.

On stage, Brantley's youthful energy collides with his world-weary insight, creating an irresistible friction. Though his fiery music could certainly stand alone, it is the often-wistful lyrics that give Brantley's songs their dimension. He gives rock n' roll a conscience and an overwhelming sense of triumph and couples that with a belief that music must be more than just a soundtrack. In his own words, he views himself and his music as "a mouthpiece for many things: tolerance, freedom, love, hope, justice, peace...war...God's instrument to change this world."

It seems Brantley has created the perfect balancing act. He combines Otis Redding's moan and Joe Cocker's growl with all the heart-pounding intensity of a breathless Bruce Springsteen. Add a horn section, a couple gospel background singers, and an unshakeable purpose, and you find yourself listening to Rick Brantley. It is the flickering human spirit standing up to the grit of reality.
