Wages Day Lyrics

There he stood and there we left
Outside the flashing neon sign
With the smell of cheap cigars
And the hope of sweet perfumeAnd his heart, it was reeling
With the thrill of it all
All to do and only hours
He said, All this is all yoursAnd you can have it all
You can take it all away
From where we left off
Living it all your wayIf you stand in my shoes
If you do what I do
On a wages day
On a wages dayAnd the cap from Disneyland
That his cousin, she brought back
Stays open in his hand
From one week to anotherAnd this long, narrow land
Is full of possibility
All to do and only hours

He said, All this is all yoursYou can have it all
You can take it all away
From where we left off
Living it all your wayIf you stand in my shoes
If you'll do what I do
On a wages dayAnd you can have it all
You can take it all away
From where we left off
Living it all your wayIf you stand in my shoes
Have you do what I doOn a wages day
On a wages day
On a wages day
On a wages dayOn a wages day
On a wages day
If you do what I do
On a wages day

Deacon Blue is a Scottish pop band formed in Glasgow in 1985. Their name came from the title of the Steely Dan song "Deacon Blues". Success came for the band in 1989 when their second studio album, When The World Knows Your Name, topped the UK Album Charts. The album included "Real Gone Kid" which became their first UK top ten single. After releasing further albums in 1991 and 1993, they split up in 1994. Five years later, in 1999, the band held a reunion gig and this led to the album, Walking Back Home. Since then they have released Homesick (2001) and The Hipsters (2012).
