Washington Work Song Lyrics

1 2 3 4There's blood on the sidewalk
From someone I don't know
I step around it
So I won't get it on my shoeOn my way to work in Washington
On my way to work in Washington
On my way to work in Washington, DCMy name is America, but I pronounced it George
Some people think I'm rich
But I am mostly poor
And I cover it up to get you to fight in my warThe truth is
I am my own enemy
But I'll buy anything
You advertise on TVOn my way to work in Washington
On my way to work in Washington
On my way to work in Washington, DCGotta make it look good
Gotta make it look good
Gotta make it look goodEvery Friday, Karen and Katy
Go to take care of babies with aids
Who were born like their mothers

Addicted to crackDrinking their bottles
Lying on their backs
Just like their fathers
Mom ain't coming backOn my way to work in Washington
On my way to work in Washington
On my way to work in Washington, DCGotta make it look good
Gotta make it look good
Gotta make it look goodGotta make it look good
Gotta make it look good
Gotta make it look goodThere's blood on the sidewalk
From someone I might know
Should I step around it
So I won't get it on my soulOn my way to work in Washington
On my way to work in Washington
On my way to work in Washington, DCGotta make it look good
Gotta make it look good
Gotta make it look good

Disappear Fear, an American folk/power pop band, formed in Baltimore in 1987. The original band consisted of sisters Sonia Rutstein and Cindy Frank. Their lyrics have always addressed social injustices and other progressive political causes. The band went on to sell over 500,000 cds at venues and rock and folk festivals and attracted the attention of Philo and Warner Chappell. Sonia, the songwriter in the group never changed an adjective and unlike many performers never hid her sexuality, therefore becoming a favorite at pride festivals around the world.
