Where Did You Sleep Last Night Lyrics

[Hook]
My girl, my girl don't lie to me
Tell me where did you sleep last night?
In the pines, In the pines where the sun don't ever shine
I will shiver the whole night through
My girl, my girl where will you go?
I'm going where the cold wind blows
In the pines, in the pines where the sun don't ever shine
I will shiver the whole night through
[Verse 1]
Her husband was a hard workin' man
Just found one mile from here
His head was found in the driving wheel
But his body never was found
[Hook]

My girl, my girl, where will you go?
I'm going where the cold wind blows
In the pines, in the pines, where the sun don't ever shine
I will shiver the whole night through
[Hook]

Huddie Ledbetter, known as Leadbelly, was a unique figure in the American popular music of the 20th century. Ultimately, he was best remembered for a body of songs that he discovered, adapted, or wrote, including “Goodnight, Irene,” “Rock Island Line,” “The Midnight Special,” and “Cotton Fields.” But he was also an early example of a folksinger whose background had brought him into direct contact with the oral tradition by which folk music was handed down, a tradition that, by the early years of the century, already included elements of commercial popular music.
