Carolynn Black is known as a "female singer-songwriter/soul mama known to encourage happiness, dancing, and good vibes through music." Accused of sounding like the freaky-lesbo-love-child of Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin, Carolynn describes herself as a bluesy,country-funkified soul singer. She is all those things, and then some.

Originally from New York, she came to Madison and quickly hooked into the Madison music scene singing with Clyde Stubblefield on Funky Mondays at the King Club and later bringing her energy to the original funk and R&B band Vibe Syndicate. Carolynn Black & The Blues music, I am a lover of music - always have been, always will be. The opening lyric of "Let it go" pretty much says it all: "When I was a little girl, my momma told me that music makes the world go round." That's it right there. I have always been surrounded by music - whether it was the 10 years of classical piano I thought I'd never get through, discovering the blues at a dive bar in DC, or enjoying one of many Allman Brothers shows at the Beacon - music has been an ever present source of joy and release in my life.
