Wire Lyrics

Turn on the spotlight, strike up the band
Everyone's looking my way
They came to see the excitement firsthand
Hear all that I've got to say
Oh, it makes me wonder What if I slip
Will they catch me or watch me fall?
I am walking on a wire, tiptoe in through the fire
Never looking down to see that
I am walking on a wire, the pressure's getting higher
But I don't look around
Everyone roots for the winner
The others well maybe next time
Time at the top only lasts fifteen minutes
They just leave you behind
Oh, it makes me wonder, what if I slip
Will they catch me or watch me fall?
I am walking on a wire, tiptoe in through the fire

Never looking down to see that
I am walking on a wire, pressure's getting higher
But I don't look around, it's so far to the ground
Will they catch me if I fall?
Will they catch me if I fall?
What if I slip
Will they catch me or watch me fall?
I am walking on a wire, tiptoe in through the fire
Never looking down to see that
Yeah I am walking on a wire, pressure's getting higher
I don't look around it's so far to the ground
I'm never looking down

On an empty NYC subway train circa 1997, Colombian-born, Brooklyn-based singer and songster John Wolfington inexplicably decided to switch cars at the 14th Street station. Sitting in the next car, deep into a novel, was Thurston Moore. Coincidentally carrying a tape containing 'Coney Island Freak' — a song that talks about a trip to the freak show and references SY in its lyric — and feeling he had been somehow 'urged' to switch cars, he handed the tape to Thurston, who politely accepted it.
