Au Pair Lyrics

He fell in love with the au pair
She ran her fingers through his hair
And said, "It's silky"
He knew, of course, that he ought to be feeling guilty
But, no, he didn't care at allHe hadn't felt this great in years
Meanwhile, his wife's upstairs in tears
Well, it's so corny
Her world's turned upside down 'cause he felt horny
So tell me, how can it be fair? But as they drive away
She wonders just how long
It'll take for him to realize
How much he's wrongAnd when he comes home in disgrace
She'll slam the door right in his faceWell, it's so sleazy
(I wish you could see me in a white dress, looking divine)
He won't find coming back here quite as easy
(I wish you could hear me sing like I did, my hymns and rhymes)
As he found going awayBut as they disappear
She hopes it won't be long

Before he ends up realizing
That he's wrong

Cinerama from Leeds, UK started life as a duo in 1997, The Wedding Present's David Gedge and his girlfriend Sally Murrell, together with a shifting line-up of collaborators. 1998's Va Va Voom "turbo-driven melodies and bittersweet vignettes taking in everything from John Barry to the Zombies" (The Times) featured The Church's Marty Willson-Piper and Emma Pollock from The Delgados. Then later in 1998, Gedge rescued the rhythm section of the disbanded Goya Dress ([Terry de Castro and Simon Pearson) and combined them with Wedding Present guitarist Simon Cleave.
