Great Escape Lyrics

[Whistles]I just wanna talk about
The way we were when our world stopped turning
Why can't we just laugh about
Mistakes we made, they were good old days? But I don't care about the lies we told
We'll feel better when we get olderBut what would I do if I didn't have you in this delicate game we play?
And is this love an attraction, beautiful distraction
Or are you my great escape?[Whistles]Because there's no easy reason
For the cards we fold, when our hands got cold
'Cause I think it's just a feeling
But I've been down this road many times before
Don't let me in, but don't lock the doorWhat would I do if i didn't have you in this delicate game we play?
And is this love an attraction, beautiful distraction
Or are you my great escape?'Cause we just need to breathe a little slower
So we can learn to fall a little faster
But I just can't believe
That you're not the one for meAnd how was I so naive? Now what should I do if I don't have you in this delicate game we play?
And is this love an attraction, beautiful distraction
Or are you my great escape?[Whistles]

Gavin James, 22-year-old singer songwriter, has already won Ireland's answer to the Mercury (the Choice Music Prize for 'Song of the Year') and seen his debut EP ('Say Hello') remain on the Irish chart for over 6 months. This rise and development in his home market has gained Gavin sell-out headline dates and wider support tours with the likes of Lianne La Havas, Beth Orton, Kodaline and Marina & The Diamonds.

A snapshot of this ascent, 'Live at Whelans' is a selection of new and old songs performed in the stripped-back environment of a rapturously-received hometown show. The first track to be lifted from it, 'Nervous', is a pin-drop account of a one-sided relationship: from that initial fear of your first meeting to the gradual realisation, by the end of the song, that perhaps they were never who you thought they were (and it's best to forget about them).
