He's Just A Little Meaner Lyrics

He's just a little meaner and maybe I can break away
Make me cry a little harder and maybe I won't want to stay
You don't love me and I know it it's been the answer's thought me so
So be just a little meaner then I'll give up at last and go
He'll hurt me just a little and fill my heart with doubts and fears
And you love me just a little and I'll forget yesterday's tears
If you'd really truly hurt me I might forget I'd love you so
Please be just a little meaner then I'll give up at last and go
[ steel ]
Be just a little meaner honey won't you set me free
I can hardly remember the last time you said you love me
After all the love I gave you what I ask is only fair
Please be just a little meaner so I can run and hide somewhere

Harlan Howard (1927-2002), a native of Detroit, was one of the most prolific and successful of the “old school” Nashville songwriters. While living and working in Los Angeles, he enjoyed a few minor successes, before the break-out hits “Pick Me Up On Your Way Down” and “Heartaches by the Number” led him to move to Nashville in 1960. There, he became an immediate success, his songs recorded by innumerable country artists. Among his biggest hits was the Patsy Cline classic “I Fall to Pieces.” A member of the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and the Country Music Hall of Fame, he was a force in country music until his death.
