Kings Cross Lyrics

And when you asked me to stay
I made some excuse
When deep down I knew that
All hell was breaking looseSo why was I there in the first place?
Im not sure
I think I wanted to spend the night with you
And though you wanted moreI thought that you and me
We're never meant to be
Now why would I think that? And when I called home to tell her
That Id be late
You stood outside the phone box
When some wouldn't have bothered to waitAnd how can I ever say sorry
For leading you on?
I came into your life without asking
And then suddenly I was goneBecause I thought that you and me
We're never meant to be
Now why would I think that?
You and me, yeah, now of course I seeAnd I could ponder this forever

But I can't explain
What it was that made me ever
Get on that trainWell, I thought that you and me
We're never meant to be
Now why would I think that?
You and me, well, now of course I see
Why would I think that?

Cinerama from Leeds, UK started life as a duo in 1997, The Wedding Present's David Gedge and his girlfriend Sally Murrell, together with a shifting line-up of collaborators. 1998's Va Va Voom "turbo-driven melodies and bittersweet vignettes taking in everything from John Barry to the Zombies" (The Times) featured The Church's Marty Willson-Piper and Emma Pollock from The Delgados. Then later in 1998, Gedge rescued the rhythm section of the disbanded Goya Dress ([Terry de Castro and Simon Pearson) and combined them with Wedding Present guitarist Simon Cleave.
