Let Us In Lyrics
“Let Us In” (Black Eyes)
Verse one
Cold is the night when it’s late
Under the stars, the fire shrinks
I hear little feet approach
Shadows cross my tent then one speaks
Chorus one
Let us in
It is so cold outside
We are lost
We need shelter inside
Let us in.
We need something to eat
We can’t come in
Until you ask us in.
Verse two
Faces under hoods still unknown
How could these kids be here alone
They speak in urgent monotones
Heads facing down while they moan
Chorus repeat 2
Bridge one
When they look up you meet large black eyes
They seem to grab you and how can they read my mind
My thoughts are answered before I even speak
I shut the door so they’ll leave, but their presence remains.
Verse three
Long little fingers clawing at the tent
Persistent their request that linger on for hours
Hoarse voices plea, it won’t take long
Our elders will come back, then well be gone.
Instrumental Chorus 3
Chorus repeat 4
Bridge Two
I hear the story of what happens when you give in.
Bad things will happen I already feel on my skin.
If they’re just kids, why do I dread this way
Those black eyes are compelling
But I won’t obey.
Verse four
Suddenly silent, the crack of dawn
Raising the door, I see they’re gone
Empty desert, no place to hide
Only Joshua trees and tumbleweeds.
