The Lights At Nero's Party Lyrics

How vaguely we eschew complicity with You,
it's always run-arounds, excuses
and words we bind to nooses
just to sullenly let swing
the best of arbitrary things,
like, do we care about the poor?
Oh yes, but we support the king. And we're starving for the slaughter.
A man gives up his daughter
and the walls that keep us safe aren't saving anyone.
Didn't You say
to risk everything? And we're left dieting for more
and then we're burning on the tor
that flanks an emperor's affair.
We've hardly sacrificed before
so in manic heavenward stare
let the confession from our lungs
that as our bodies torch the air
to the fanfare and the drums,

amid drunken wild acclaim,
we have the urge to scream Your name.
and without hesitance or shame
affirm our place among the burning.
And our bodies break, confirming
our inability to remain
without an object for our yearning. Our inability, our inability.

After The Sirens is a five piece indie rock outfit from Boston's snowy North Shore. The success of their 2005 self-released EP "We Have No White Flags," which landed the band its first national cable television performance and critical acclaim from both regional and national media, created a strong regional fan base that was very eager for the release of After The Sirens' first full-length album.

After over two years of persistent self-promotion, After The Sirens signed on with Boston indie label Blue Duck Records in January 2006. Their first full length album "What I Have to Give, Let it be Enough" was released on November 28, 2006.

After taking some time off to graduate from college, After The Sirens embarked on their first national tour in the fall of 2007. At this time, they also released "What I Have to Give..." in Japan, where it charted on the top 10 indie albums of 2007 at Tower Records. The album also included two bonus tracks which were not available on the American release.

On April 6, 2008, after playing only nine shows since the end of their national tour, After The Sirens announced its breakup on its MySpace page. Since then, however, vocalist Ryan Heidorn and guitarist Tom Deyesso have been writing music together which they plan to debut in the Boston area by the end of this summer.
