Brother Jacob Lyrics

Hey brother Jacob
I trust you're well today
You've been dealin' with the devil
And cast your soul awayOl' brother Jacob lived 93 years
Not a second of it on his knees
He lived in a little wood shanty
Down the road a little pieceAll he ever seemed to care about
Was his money that he saved so long
Always tryin' to get a few dollars
Any way, right or wrongHey brother Jacob
I trust you're well today
You've been dealin' with the devil
And cast your soul awayThe only part that you have to doubt
Is where it says you don't have to pay
Ol' brother Jacob gambled and lost
When he sold his soul todayThe story came down from the mountain town
Brother Jacob was called away
They say that the devil came for him

And they swear it to this very dayThen again, there's another tale
That's told around the town
Says Brother Jacob is still alive
And livin' undergroundHey brother Jacob
I trust you're well today
You've been dealin' with the devil
And cast your soul awayHey brother Jacob
I trust you're well today
You've been dealin' with the devil
And cast your soul away

Head East was a hard rock quintet originally from south central Illinois, then Champaign, Illinois, USA. They released their first album, Flat as a Pancake, in 1974 on their own record label (Pyramid Records) selling all 5,000 records and 500 eight-tracks produced. A&M was impressed enough to sign the band and re-release the album in 1975 which went gold by 1978. Flat as a Pancake would remain their most popular album spawning two charting singles, the well-known anthem "Never Been Any Reason" and "Love Me tonight", both written by guitarist Mike Somerville.
