Definition of a Man Lyrics

I don't know think that, uh, you should go
Through the change that you do
I want to change things for the betterHe don't deserve your kind of love
The kind of guys like me don't get enough of
Hanging out late with his friends
Always in your pockets spending your endsWhat I wouldn't do to be in his shoes
He goes out his way to misuse you
Don't take much to share responsibility
He don't even care what kind of man is heYou give you everything
But get nothing in return
Whatever you need just teach me
I ain't afraid to learn, noI'll care for you, be there for you
I'll share with you
I'll understand, I'll be your friend
That's my definition of a manI'll care for you, be there for you
I'll share with you
I'll understand, I'll be your friend
That's my definition of a manYou don't seem like you're satisfied

He said that he changed but you know he's lying
I never been one to have a PhD
'Cause I don't want nobody playing hating on meI know a good thing when I see one
I look in your eyes, girl, I see the sun
Girl, let him go while you're ahead
I should be the one sleeping in your bed, babyOh, you give him everything
But get nothing in return
Whatever you need, girl, just teach me
See I ain't afraid, I ain't afraid to learnI'll care for you, be there for you
I'll share with you
I'll understand, I'll be your friend
That's my definition of a manBe there for you
I'll share with you
I'll understand, I'll be your friend
That's my definition of a manSee baby, you should never have
To wear the same thing twice
I'll buy you everything you like
I'll go to the wall for you
Spend my last time at the mall for you, babyGo downtown in more ways than one
See a good mans job, a good mans job
Is never never never never never
Never never done, babyI'll care for you, be there for you
I'll share with you
I'll understand, I'll be your friend
That's my definition of a manI'll care for you, be there for you
I'll share with you
I'll understand, I'll be your friend
That's my definition of a man

Gerald Levert (July 13 1966 - November 10 2006) was an rhythm and blues singer, one of several from the musical Levert family. His father, Eddie Levert, is the lead singer of the 1970s soul group The O'Jays. Gerald Levert sang with his brother, Sean Levert, and Marc Gordon in the R&B trio LeVert. He was also a member of LSG, an R&B trio also featuring Johnny Gill and Keith Sweat

During the 1980s and early 1990s, Levert scored big hits with "Pop, Pop, Pop, Pop (Goes My Mind)", "Casanova", and "ABC-123" (not to be confused with the Jackson Five hit of the same name). As a solo artist, Gerald's hits included "I'd Give Anything (to Fall in Love)", "You Got that Love", and "Mr. Too Damn Good To You".

Gerald and Eddie collaborated together on many different occasions, and they recorded an album called Father and Son together.

Gerald Levert also sang the chorus on the Chris Rock spoken-word comedy piece, "No Sex (In The Champagne Room)".

In 2005, Levert's daughter Carlysia was featured on an episode of MTV's My Super Sweet Sixteen.

Levert passed away due to an apparent heart attack on November 10, 2006. Sister 2 Sister magazine reported that Gerald and his father had just returned from a 10-day trip to South Africa where they had met with Nelson Mandela and were treated like royalty. Upon Gerald's return, he was excited about his upcoming album, which is due early in 2007. Gerald died in his sleep.
